Papers, 1921-1947.

Papers include correspondence, cost analyses, expense account reports, blueprints, and miscellaneous business records. Most of the materials relate to professional matters such as equipment inventories, costs of procuring construction equipment, and materials used in road construction such as asphalt. A few personal effects and correspondence are also included. Photographs of Donovan's fraternity, the Heary Garage and a civil engineers fair were transferred to the repository's photograph collection. Maps of Georgia roads, Iowa State University, U.S. roads, Washington, D.C. roads, and the condition of Iowa's roads in the 1940 were transferred to the repository's map collection. Blueprints of the Des Moines and Eau Claire ordnance plants were transferred to the architectural plans collection.

Civil engineer, road builder. During the earlier years represented in the collection Donovan worked as a junior engineer for the Bureau of Public Roads. Later he worked for Weitz, McLaughlin Central Engineering and Priester Constructors as their superintendent of the equipment and plant department. In this capacity he was associated with projects for the United States War Dept. and the Des Moines Ordnance Plant.
